Heritage Hospice, Inc. Champion Award
Kim Johnson (left, in photo above), BSN RN CHPN, Clinical Navigator received the Hospice Champion Award for 2020. Kim has been with Heritage Hospice, Inc. since September 2007 when she first started as an LPN. “Hospice is a calling, and for me it is a ministry. People have the choice on how they live their lives and I believe they should also have a choice on how the end of their life can look. Death can be beautiful and peaceful.” The HHI Champion Award is given to the individual who has demonstrated excellence in the use of skills, caring and devotion to patients and colleagues. This individual has demonstrated sensitivity and commitment to the mission of the organization and promotion of end-of-life care. They consistently exhibit initiative in their position performance and possess excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills which contribute to effectiveness and improved efficiency at HHI. They demonstrate a thorough knowledge of resources available and a willingness to respond to the needs of patients, providers and colleagues in a compassionate and caring manner. The individual is a role model for professionalism and service delivery internally and externally.
Kim said “A hospice champion award embodies everything you strive to achieve as a healthcare provider. We do our best to keep our patients comfortable and help families understand the stages of grief and loss. I am proud, honored and humbled to accept this award.”
Heart of Hospice Award
Pam Whitehouse (right, in photo above), Nursing Services Manager at Heritage Hospice Inc. received the “Heart of Hospice” award at the 2020 virtual awards ceremony hosted by Executive Director, Janelle Wheeler, and Hospice board of directors on Tuesday November 17th 2020.The Heart of Hospice Nominee is one who perseveres through those tough days with compassion, cooperation, collaboration, and professionalism. They have impacted or encouraged others and have demonstrated commitment and dedication to the patient experience, the team, and to the organization.
Pam has been with Heritage Hospice, Inc. for the past nineteen years, she started in the nursing field as a case manager seeing patients in their homes then became the nursing services manager in 2006. Pam supervises all nursing staff and is also in charge of the infection control program. “2020 has been challenging to say the least. To say that I am humbled to have received this award is an understatement.” Pam has worked countless hours alongside of the rest of the hospice staff to guide and direct them as they move through the COVID-19 pandemic all while maintaining the level of care for every patient that is of the upmost standard. “I am so appreciative of this award. I honestly believe that any of our staff could have been given this honor as well. We are all a dedicated team and we work together to give our patients and their families the best care possible no matter what obstacles we face.”
